Color Theory

Color Theory

  1. Define hue: Is the correct and best word to reference the pure spectrum of colors.
  2. Define value: Is the relative darkness or lightness of a given color or hue.
    1. ​Example: 
       
  3. Define saturation: Is the state or process when there can't be no more of a thing can be attached, it starts from grey to the pure color).
  4. How many colors are available on our computers? There are at least 256 shades of red,green,and blues. Then at least a total of 16,777,2
  5. Define secondary color: A color produced by combining two primary colors in equal amounts (green, orange, violet).
  6. Define tertiary color: The result when there are equal amounts of primary and secondary colors( usually in a color wheel) (when red and orange is combined, red-orange is created).
  7. Define complementary colors: The colors that are opposite to the other member of the pair on a color wheel (green is opposed to red).

  8. What are the primary colors in Photoshop? The primary colors in Photoshop are RGB(red,green,blue), CMYK(cyan,magenta,yellow), Lab Color(based on CIE L*a*b) and Greyscale
  9. What are the secondary colors in Photoshop? The secondary colors are orange, violet, and green. 
  10. Define subtractive color model: When mixing of several dyes, inks, paint pigments or natural colors to transform into other colors to make a larger range of colors.
  11. Define additive color model: An additive color model that colors like red, green, and blue are joined light a light to create lighter colors combined with each other.
  12. Is RGB additive or subtractive?  Groups of three colors that are next to each other on the color wheel
  13. What is the CYYK color model used for? CYYK color model is used for printed color illustrations (hard copy).
  14. Define analogous colors: A group of colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel (Example: red, orange, and yellow)
  15. Define tint: A color or a variety of a color or a hue.
  16. Define shade: The comparison of darkness caused by the interception or rays of light from something reflecting.
  17. Define neutral: Groups of colors that don't usually show on the color wheel they are referred as "earth tones".
  18. Define monochromatic:
    1. ​Example: Create a canvas demonstrating a grayscale color scheme from White to Black using 7+ photos. Canvas specs above
  19. What can be said in general about warm colors?  Warm colors are colors that have a warm effect on our perspective.
  20. What can be said in general about cool colors? Cool colors are made with blue, green, and purple. They might make you think of cool peace things because they are not overpowering. 
  21. Which color is associated with stability? Blue
  22. Which color symbolizes royalty?  Purple
  23. Which is the color of cleanliness? White
  24. Which color symbolism freshness? Green
  25. Which colors are associated with joy? Yellow
  26. Which color symbolizes passion and danger?  Red
